Measurement and Geometry

Virginia SOL 5.MG.1

Solve problems involving length, mass, and liquid volume using metric units.

What students need to be able to do

  • Determine the most appropriate metric unit of measure for length (millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers) in a contextual problem.
  • Determine the most appropriate metric unit of measure for mass (grams, kilograms) in a contextual problem.
  • Determine the most appropriate metric unit of measure for liquid volume (milliliters, liters) in a contextual problem.
  • Estimate and measure length (millimeters, centimeters, meters) to solve contextual problems.
  • Estimate and measure mass (grams, kilograms) to solve contextual problems.
  • Estimate and measure liquid volume (milliliters, liters) to solve contextual problems.
  • Determine equivalent metric measurements within the metric system for length, mass, and liquid volume.
