Probability and Statistics
Virginia SOL 7.PS.2
Apply the data cycle with a focus on histograms to collect, organize, represent, and analyze data.
What students need to be able to do
- Formulate questions that require data collection with a focus on histograms.
- Determine data needed to answer a formulated question and collect data using observations, measurement, surveys, or experiments.
- Determine how sample size and randomness ensure data is representative of a larger population.
- Organize and represent numerical data using histograms with and without technology.
- Investigate and explain how different intervals impact the representation of data in a histogram.
- Compare data represented in histograms with other graphs (line plots, circle graphs, stem-and-leaf plots) and justify the best representation.
- Analyze data in histograms to make observations and draw conclusions, identifying patterns not easily seen in raw data.
