Measurement and Geometry
Virginia SOL 3.MG.1
Estimate and measure length, weight/mass, and liquid volume using standard units.
What students need to be able to do
- Justify whether an estimate or exact measurement is needed for a contextual situation.
- Estimate and measure length to the nearest U.S. Customary unit (1/2 inch, inch, foot, yard).
- Estimate and measure length to the nearest metric unit (centimeter, meter).
- Estimate and measure weight/mass to the nearest U.S. Customary unit (pound).
- Estimate and measure weight/mass to the nearest metric unit (kilogram).
- Estimate and measure liquid volume to the nearest U.S. Customary unit (cup, pint, quart, gallon).
- Estimate and measure liquid volume to the nearest metric unit (liter).
- Compare estimates of length, weight/mass, or liquid volume with actual measurements.
