What students need to be able to do

  • Report orally on a topic or present an opinion clearly and succinctly.
  • Provide evidence to support the main idea in oral presentations.
  • Use language, vocabulary, and style appropriate to the audience, topic, and purpose.
  • Use verbal communication skills such as volume, tone, and enunciation to enhance the message.
  • Use nonverbal skills such as posture, gestures, and eye movement to enhance the message.
  • Encourage audience participation through planned interactions.
  • Reference source material as appropriate during presentations.
