What students need to be able to do
- Facilitate and contribute to sustained collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade six topics and texts.
- Listen actively through verbal and nonverbal communication and use agreed-upon discussion rules.
- Work respectfully by building on others' ideas and showing value for their contributions.
- Ask relevant questions to clarify others' perspectives.
- Communicate agreement or tactful disagreement with others' ideas using carefully constructed responses.
- Paraphrase and summarize key ideas being discussed using ample evidence, examples, or details.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of participant interactions and one's own contributions to collaborative work.
