What students need to be able to do

  • Analyze a real-world system to determine energy transfers and transformations.
  • Plan and conduct an investigation to determine the relationship between work, power, and efficiency.
  • Design, build, test, and refine an apparatus that maximizes the efficiency of a closed system.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of simple real-world systems and justify improvements to efficiency.
  • Plan and conduct an investigation to confirm that energy is conserved in translational and rotational systems.
  • Develop and use models to visualize, explain, and predict interactions involving angular displacement, angular velocity, angular acceleration, and moment of inertia.
  • Apply principles of torque to industrial tools and real-world scenarios.
