Momentum Conservation
Virginia SOL PHII.3
Investigate momentum conservation laws and their application to real-world systems.
What students need to be able to do
- Explain the relationship between impulse and momentum in real-world systems.
- Develop and use models to predict pre-collision and post-collision scenarios of elastic and inelastic collisions.
- Make, support, and evaluate a claim that linear and angular momentum can be used to analyze revolving objects, whereas angular momentum must be used to describe rotating objects.
- Solve problems involving the angular momentum of rotating objects in real-world systems.
- Plan and conduct an investigation related to conservation of angular momentum.
