Force, Motion, and Energy

Virginia SOL 5.3.FME.2

Investigate the relationship between force and energy of moving objects.

What students need to be able to do

  • Recognize that moving objects have kinetic energy.
  • Describe motion by an object’s direction and speed.
  • Recognize that changes in motion are related to net force and mass.
  • Explain how contact forces transfer energy during collisions and change motion.
  • Identify friction as a force that opposes motion.
