Matter and Energy in Earth's Systems
Virginia SOL ENV.2
Investigate and understand the movement of matter and energy within and among Earth's systems.
What students need to be able to do
- Make, support, and evaluate claims about Earth as a system composed of interacting components.
- Explain the importance of water's properties and characteristics in supporting life processes and Earth systems.
- Develop and use models to explain how biogeochemical processes support life and demonstrate conservation of matter and energy.
- Develop and use models of Earth's energy budget to predict how fluctuations and changes affect Earth's ability to sustain life.
