Complex Inheritance
Virginia SOL GEN.5
Investigate inheritance patterns beyond Mendelian genetics.
What students need to be able to do
- Apply rules of probability and statistics to determine if the actual results of a genetic cross fit the predicted results.
- Develop and use a model to explain Mendelian and non-Mendelian patterns of inheritance, gene linkage, and chromosome mapping (polygenic inheritance, incomplete dominance, sex-linked inheritance, and codominance).
- Make, support, and evaluate a claim about the importance of mitochondrial DNA.
