Energy Transformations and Matter Exchange
Virginia SOL BIOII.3
Investigate how the highly complex organization of living systems requires energy transformations and the exchange of matter.
What students need to be able to do
- Compare energy changes associated with anabolic and catabolic metabolic pathways.
- Develop and use a model to explain the two stages of photosynthesis and describe their interdependence.
- Make, support, and evaluate a claim about the importance of photosynthesis and respiration in the cycling of matter and transfer of energy within living systems.
- Plan and conduct an investigation to compare factors that affect enzyme activity and explain how these factors influence energy and matter in living systems.
- Predict how disruption in enzyme activity will affect energy and matter in living systems.
