Circular Trigonometry
Virginia SOL T.CT.1
Determine angle measures, sketch angles, and find trigonometric values using circular trigonometry.
What students need to be able to do
- Define a radian as a unit of angle measure and relate radian measure to arc length in a circle.
- Convert between degree and radian measures for angles, including negative and positive rotations.
- Find positive and negative coterminal angles for a given angle.
- Identify the quadrant or axis on which the terminal side of an angle lies.
- Draw a reference right triangle given a point on the terminal side of an angle in standard position.
- Draw a reference right triangle given a trigonometric function value of an angle.
- Determine the value of any trigonometric function (sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, cotangent) given a point on the terminal side of an angle in standard position.
- Given one trigonometric function value, determine the other five trigonometric function values.
- Calculate the length of an arc of a circle in radians.
- Calculate the area of a sector of a circle.
