What students need to be able to do
- Describe the shape, center, and spread of the sampling distribution of a proportion.
- Construct a one-sample z confidence interval: identify conditions (random sample, independence, normality), calculate using technology, and interpret the interval.
- Explain how changes in confidence level and sample size affect interval width and margin of error.
- Calculate and interpret a point estimate and margin of error for a proportion confidence interval.
- Explain how and why hypothesis testing allows statistical decision-making.
- Apply one-sample z hypothesis testing: construct null and alternate hypotheses, identify conditions, calculate and interpret p-value, determine whether to reject the null hypothesis, and interpret results.
- Plan and conduct a statistical study about a proportion using the statistical cycle.
