Measurement and Geometry
Virginia SOL 2.MG.1
Reason mathematically using standard U.S. Customary units to estimate, measure, and compare objects by length, weight, and liquid volume.
What students need to be able to do
- Explain the purpose of measurement tools (ruler, scales, measuring cups) and how to use them appropriately.
- Use U.S. Customary units to estimate, measure, and compare the length of an object to the nearest inch using a ruler.
- Use U.S. Customary units to estimate, measure, and compare the weight of an object to the nearest pound using a scale.
- Use U.S. Customary units to estimate, measure, and compare the liquid volume of a container to the nearest cup using a measuring cup.
