Algebra and Functions
Virginia SOL AFDA.AF.1
Investigate, analyze, and compare linear, quadratic, and exponential function families using transformations, algebraically and graphically.
What students need to be able to do
- Identify graphs and equations of parent functions for linear, quadratic, and exponential function families.
- Describe the transformation from the parent function given the equation or the graph of the function.
- Determine whether a linear, quadratic, or exponential function best models a given representation, including contextual scenarios.
- Write the equation of a linear, quadratic, or exponential function, given a graph, using transformations of the parent function.
- Solve problems within a context using graphical or algebraic representations of a function.
- Graph a function given its equation using transformations of the parent function and verify transformations using technology.
- Compare and contrast linear, quadratic, and exponential functions using multiple representations (graphs, tables, equations, verbal descriptions).
