  • Establish, support, and maintain a central idea with evidence throughout a piece of writing.
  • Organize ideas in a logical sequence to exhibit unity.
  • Use transitions, precise vocabulary, and sentence variety to create a cohesive structure.
  • Show relationships between arguments, evidence, and ideas.
  • Use background knowledge to expand ideas and add depth.
  • Utilize reference materials when necessary.
  • Identify and address counterarguments and provide a rebuttal where appropriate.
