What students need to be able to do
- Read grade-level complex texts with accuracy, automaticity, appropriate rate, and meaningful expression in successive readings.
- Monitor reading to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding.
- Proficiently read and comprehend literary and informational texts at the lower range of grades 9-10 complexity.
- Draw evidence from grade-level complex texts to support claims, conclusions, and inferences.
- Trace the location of relevant evidence in texts to support analysis.
- Read conceptually related texts organized around topics to build knowledge and vocabulary.
- Use reading strategies to aid and monitor comprehension when encountering challenging sections of text.
