Develop effective oral communication and collaboration skills.
What students need to be able to do
- Facilitate and contribute to sustained collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade seven topics and texts.
- Listen actively through verbal and nonverbal communication and use agreed-upon discussion rules.
- Work effectively and respectfully by building on others' ideas and sharing responsibility for collaborative work.
- Ask and respond to probing questions and provide appropriate feedback within structured discussions.
- Communicate agreement or tactful disagreement with others' ideas using carefully constructed statements.
- Paraphrase, summarize, and write reflectively in response to the ideas being discussed.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of participant interactions and one's own contributions to small group activities.
