What students need to be able to do

  • Prepare for and participate in a range of sustained collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade-five topics and texts.
  • Listen actively and speak using agreed-upon discussion rules.
  • Respectfully demonstrate agreement or disagreement with others' ideas.
  • Ask and answer relevant questions to build on others' ideas, clarify ideas, and acquire or confirm information.
  • Summarize the main ideas being discussed, using evidence, examples, and details to support opinions and conclusions.
  • Share responsibility for the learning based on assigned roles and/or task expectations.
