What students need to be able to do
- Engage in writing as a process to compose well-developed paragraphs.
- Provide an introduction with a clear topic sentence that connects to the central idea.
- Develop, select, and organize ideas relevant to topic, purpose, and genre using precise language and topic-specific words and phrases.
- Use transition words and prepositional phrases to vary sentence structure and link sentences.
- Provide a concluding statement or section.
