Conduct research, evaluate sources, and synthesize information ethically.

What students need to be able to do

  • Formulate and revise research questions, broadening or narrowing inquiry as necessary.
  • Gather and organize information from various sources.
  • Objectively evaluate primary and secondary sources for credibility, reliability, accuracy, and bias.
  • Synthesize multiple streams of evidence to support claims and acknowledge counterclaims.
  • Create research products aligned with reading and writing standards.
  • Cite sources for quoted and paraphrased ideas using MLA or APA documentation.
  • Define plagiarism and follow ethical and legal guidelines for gathering and using information.
  • Demonstrate ethical and responsible use of all sources, including Internet, AI, and new technologies.
