What students need to be able to do

• Formulate and revise research questions, broadening or narrowing the inquiry as necessary.
• Gather and organize information from various sources.
• Objectively evaluate primary and secondary sources for credibility, reliability, accuracy, usefulness, and limitations.
• Identify main and supporting ideas, points of view, conflicting information, and biases in sources.
• Synthesize multiple streams of evidence to support claims and acknowledge counterclaims.
• Create research products aligned with reading and writing standards.
• Cite primary and secondary sources for quoted and paraphrased ideas using MLA or APA.
• Define the meaning and consequences of plagiarism and follow ethical guidelines.
• Demonstrate ethical and responsible use of all sources, including the Internet, AI, and new technologies.
