Conduct research and synthesize information from primary and secondary sources.
What students need to be able to do
- Formulate and revise research questions, broadening or narrowing the inquiry as necessary.
- Gather and organize information from various sources.
- Objectively evaluate primary and secondary sources for credibility, reliability, accuracy, usefulness, and limitations.
- Identify main and supporting ideas, points of view, conflicting information, and biases in sources.
- Synthesize multiple streams of evidence to support claims and acknowledge counterclaims.
- Create research products aligned with reading and writing standards.
- Cite primary and secondary sources for quoted and paraphrased ideas using MLA or APA.
- Define the meaning and consequences of plagiarism and follow ethical guidelines.
- Demonstrate ethical and responsible use of all sources, including the Internet, AI, and new technologies.
