Organize and compose writing for specific audiences and purposes.
What students need to be able to do
- Plan and organize writing using the writing process (planning, drafting, revising, editing).
- Compose thesis statements that clearly communicate the writer's position or assertion.
- Introduce and develop central ideas, organizing them in a logical sequence to exhibit unity.
- Defend positions using sufficient reasons with evidence from credible sources.
- Embed narrative techniques to develop and enhance writing.
- Use transitions effectively to connect ideas within and across paragraphs.
- Elaborate ideas clearly through intentional word choice and varied sentence structure.
