What students need to be able to do

• Formulate and revise research questions, broadening or narrowing the inquiry as necessary.
• Gather and organize information from various sources, including internet resources and electronic databases.
• Objectively evaluate primary and secondary sources for credibility, reliability, accuracy, usefulness, and limitations.
• Identify main and supporting ideas, points of view, conflicting information, and misconceptions or biases in sources.
• Synthesize multiple streams of information from a variety of sources to support claims and introduce counterclaims.
• Create research products aligned with reading and writing standards.
• Cite primary and secondary sources for quoted and paraphrased ideas using MLA or APA documentation.
• Define plagiarism and follow ethical and legal guidelines for gathering and using information.
• Demonstrate ethical and responsible use of all sources, including the Internet, AI, and new technologies.
