Demonstrate comprehension of literary texts by identifying key ideas, plot details, and story elements.
What students need to be able to do
- Retell familiar stories sequentially and demonstrate understanding of story structure, central message, or lesson.
- Identify elements of a familiar story, including characters, setting, and important events (e.g., conflict and resolution).
- Ask and answer literal (who, what, when, where) or inferential (how, why) questions about what is read.
- Generate predictions about story characters and events using the text.
