What students need to be able to do
- Read decodable and grade-level texts with accuracy, automaticity, appropriate rate, and meaningful expression.
- Monitor reading to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding.
- Draw evidence from read-alouds to support claims, conclusions, and inferences.
- Quote or paraphrase from texts accurately and trace relevant evidence.
- Engage in listening to conceptually related texts organized around topics to build knowledge and vocabulary.
