What students need to be able to do

  • Read decodable and grade-level texts with accuracy, automaticity, appropriate rate, and meaningful expression.
  • Monitor reading to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding.
  • Draw evidence from read-alouds to support claims, conclusions, and inferences.
  • Quote or paraphrase from texts accurately and trace relevant evidence.
  • Engage in listening to conceptually related texts organized around topics to build knowledge and vocabulary.
